According to the Community Peacemaker Teams Iraqi Kurdistan (CPT), the Turkish army carried out heavy artillery shelling on several villages in the Duhok Governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) on Monday. Kamaran Osman, spokesperson for the local CPT branch, said that a total of 48 bombings were counted within one day.

Accordingly, the attacks targeted villages in the Amadiya and Metîna regions, including Mijê, Kevne Mijê, and Spîndarê in the Ber Garê area, as well as Guherzê and Belavê in Metîna. The attacks reportedly began early in the morning and continued throughout the day.

Osman pointed out that the number of Turkish attacks had initially declined in recent days. However, Monday’s escalation indicated a possible intensification of Turkey’s occupation attacks and troop movements in the region.

The attacks by Turkey are taking place despite a unilateral ceasefire declared by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in early March in response to a call for peace by PKK founder Abdullah Öcalan. Last week, the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) announced that the Turkish army was escalating its use of banned chemical weapons in its attacks against guerrilla areas in northern Iraq.
