The Imrali Delegation of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) released a written statement, saying, “For some time now, certain circles have been publishing and commenting on notes on social media that are claimed to be related to meetings held on Imrali Island.”
The statement continued as follows: “Undoubtedly, the meetings between Mr. Öcalan and the delegation, and particularly Mr. Öcalan’s views regarding the Peace and Democratic Society Call process, are rightfully awaited and followed by the public. Information regarding these meetings is also being shared with the press and the public by our delegation members. Any documents and information, apart from what has been presented and conveyed by the delegation, that have been distorted, subjected to speculative and baseless interpretations, should not be trusted.”
The statement added: “We evaluate all views regarding the process, whether in favor or against, with respect as part of the requirements of a democratic society. However, we would like to inform the public that attitudes aiming to undermine trust through false and distorted documents and information are regarded by us as provocative attempts.
Topics related to social peace inherently involve serious, reliable, and to a certain degree, confidential processes of discussion and negotiation. As the DEM Party and the Imrali Delegation of the DEM Party, we are striving to carry out our work with this level of attention and care.
All meetings held on Imrali Island have taken place with the participation of our delegation. Any other claims do not reflect the truth. Furthermore, no meeting notes or documents should be trusted other than those disclosed by our delegation.
Respectfully submitted for the public’s attention.”
