The mother of late actor Matthew Perry has delivered a deeply emotional statement ahead of the sentencing of the actor’s former assistant, accusing him of betraying the family’s trust and contributing directly to her son’s death.

Suzanne Morrison submitted a victim impact statement before the upcoming sentencing of Kenneth Iwamasa, who has pleaded guilty in connection with the ketamine-related death of the former Friends star. Iwamasa faces a possible prison sentence of up to 15 years.

Perry died on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54. Investigators later determined that the actor died from the acute effects of ketamine after being found unresponsive in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home.

Federal prosecutors previously stated that Iwamasa repeatedly administered ketamine injections to Perry despite lacking medical qualifications. Court filings allege that he injected the actor multiple times, including on the day of his death.

In her statement, Morrison described Iwamasa as someone the family had trusted for decades. She said he had been close to Perry for roughly 25 years and was expected to help support the actor’s ongoing recovery from addiction.

According to the statement, Morrison believed Iwamasa’s primary responsibility was to safeguard Perry’s well-being and seek help if the actor appeared to be struggling. Instead, she accused him of facilitating access to illegal drugs and personally administering them.

She wrote that the repeated injections should have raised obvious concerns about Perry’s safety and alleged that Iwamasa continued despite the visible risks.

Morrison also expressed anguish over Iwamasa’s conduct following Perry’s death. In the statement, she claimed he maintained close contact with her after the tragedy, sent messages and songs, and even provided directions related to Perry’s burial site.

She further alleged that Iwamasa insisted on speaking during Perry’s funeral service, describing the experience as painful for the family given the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death.

“We trusted a man without a conscience, and my son paid the price,” Morrison wrote in the statement, adding that the pain of losing her son would never fully disappear.

Iwamasa is one of five individuals charged in the broader investigation into the distribution of ketamine connected to Perry’s death.

Another defendant in the case, Jasveen Sangha, received a 15-year federal prison sentence earlier this year. Prosecutors alleged she supplied ketamine that ultimately led to Perry’s fatal overdose.

Court records stated that approximately 50 vials of ketamine were sold to Perry for around $11,000, including the batch tied to his death.

Iwamasa’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 27.
