The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria released a statement on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the 19 July Rojava Revolution. The statement emphasized the need to safeguard the revolution’s gains and called for participation in building a new system based on decentralization and democracy throughout Syria.
The statement said that 19 July 2012, when the revolution began, marked a turning point not only for North and East Syria but for all of Syria. It stated that a democratic and pluralistic governance model based on the will of the people was shaped through this revolution.
The statement said: “This revolution took place at a critical moment in Syrian history,” recalling the great sacrifices made by the people in their determination to establish their own governance, with thousands of martyrs having lost their lives in this struggle. The Autonomous Administration paid tribute to the martyrs with respect and longing and emphasized that they will continue the struggle until the goals of the revolution are achieved.
The statement added that following the revolution, the Democratic Autonomous Administration established a civilian administration with the participation of the people during some of the most challenging periods in the region’s history, laying the foundation for security and stability.
The statement continued: “The regions of North and East Syria have become an example of peaceful living, good governance, and social development,” adding that this model offers a practical solution not only for the region but for all of Syria.
The statement also highlighted the fight against ISIS, stating that the peoples of North and East Syria defended not only their own lands but all of humanity.
Reiterating their commitment to the achievements of the 19 July Revolution, the Autonomous Administration said: “We call on all to make a joint effort to protect these achievements and develop the democratic project, and to participate in building a new Syria based on decentralization and democracy.”
