The co-chairs of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration, Evîn Siwêd and Hisên Osman, delivered a message in Kurdish and Arabic, stating that Newroz represents the spirit of ‘unity, solidarity, resistance, and freedom.’ They called on all the people of Syria to embrace unity.
The message recalled that during the Baath regime era, the people of the region were prevented from celebrating Newroz. It stated: “This year’s Newroz will symbolize liberation from the regime and mark a new beginning in building a free Syria.” The statement also emphasized the goal of making the revolution permanent and building a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria.
Call for a shared constitution
The Autonomous Administration called on the peoples of Syria and national forces to “join hands in drafting a constitution that reflects common demands and lays the foundation for a free and democratic Syria.” In this context, it was stated that efforts are ongoing to ensure the safe return of those who were forcibly displaced from Efrîn (Afrin), Serêkaniyê, and Girê Spî to their homes.
The message praised the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Internal Security Forces for their resistance at critical points such as the Tishrin Dam and the Qeraqozax Bridge. It emphasized that their struggle reinforces the symbolic significance of this year’s Newroz fire.
The statement concluded with the following words: “We congratulate all the peoples of Northern and Eastern Syria, especially the families of the martyrs, on the 2025 Newroz celebration. On this occasion, we call upon all the people of Syria and the Syrian national forces to work together towards a free and democratic constitution.”
