The hearing of journalists who were arrested on 16 June 2022 within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and released in the first court after being detained for more than a year was held. 20 journalists are being tried, and 15 of them were kept in prison for 13 months.

The trial filed against 20 journalists who were tried without arrest on the charge of “being a member of an illegal organization” was celebrated at the Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court. Journalists Ömer Çelik, Mehmet Şahin, Elif Zilan Üngür, attended the hearing, Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) co-chair Selman Çiçek, members of the Amsterdam University Clooney Foundation and journalists also attended the hearing. Journalists’ lawyers Resul Tamur, Serdar Çelebi, Bahar Oktay were present at the hearing.

Journalists attending the hearing said they had nothing to add to their previous statements.

Digital materials requested

The journalists’ lawyer Resul Tamur requested that a warrant be written to the deposit office and the TEM branch for the return of the digital materials that were decided to be returned in the previous hearing. Lawyer Tamur also requested that all the final minutes regarding nine different judicial search warrants be included in the file, requested that the ban on traveling abroad be lifted.

The court ruled that the ban on traveling abroad will continue. The hearing was postponed to 15 May 2025.
