The final hearing in the case of former Ergani (Erxenî) Municipal Council member Ceylan Aslan was held at the 11th High Criminal Court in Diyarbakır. Aslan was prosecuted on charges of ‘membership in an organization’ and ‘violating the Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’ for participating in statements, actions, and events organized by her party in connection with the hunger strike initiated by Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair Leyla Güven.
Ceylan Aslan, who had been removed from office by the Ministry of the Interior, did not attend the hearing, while her lawyer, Seda Zengin, was present. Reiterating the opinion submitted at the previous hearing, the prosecutor demanded a conviction for Ceylan Aslan.
The court then announced its verdict, sentencing Aslan to 7 years and 6 months in prison for ‘membership in an organization,’ plus an additional 6 months for ‘violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations.’
