The Confederación Intersindical, which brings together various territorial Intersindicals and class-based unions from the Spanish State, expressed in a statement its “full support for the peace process in Kurdistan and joined the international call for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan, in line with the historical bonds of solidarity we maintain with the Kurdish people.”

The statement said: “The recent statement signed by 88 Nobel Prize laureates—including prominent figures such as Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, José Ramos Horta, Rigoberta Menchú, Jody Williams, and Shirin Ebadi—is a landmark that reinforces the legitimate aspirations of the Kurdish people and highlights the political nature of Öcalan’s imprisonment, who has been deprived of liberty for over 25 years under conditions of extreme isolation and systematic violations of his fundamental rights.

Abdullah Öcalan, founder of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), has played a key role as a mediator in efforts to establish a process of dialogue and peaceful resolution to the Kurdish conflict. His imprisonment represents a serious obstacle to achieving a democratic and lasting solution that guarantees the rights of the Kurdish people and contributes to peace in Turkey and the wider region.”

The statement added: “We reaffirm our commitment to internationalist solidarity, the defense of the collective rights of peoples, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. In this regard, we demand:

-The immediate release of Abdullah Öcalan and all individuals imprisoned for political reasons in Turkey.

-The recognition of the political, cultural, and linguistic rights of the Kurdish people.

-The resumption of a genuine, transparent, and guaranteed dialogue process, involving all political and social actors concerned.

Peace cannot be built on repression, silencing, and denial of peoples. Therefore, we call on European and international institutions, as well as social, union, and democratic organizations, to join forces in this cause, with the aim of deeply democratizing the current Turkish state model, which is based on exclusion and rejection of difference, until a just, democratic, and inclusive political solution is achieved.”
