Speaking at the rally held under the slogan “Not Isolation, Freedom Will Prevail” in Van, TJA activist Gültan Kışanak said: “This is a political demand, not an imposition—it is a necessity for democratic resolution and transformation. If the solution to the problem passes through Parliament, this meeting must take place first.”
Kışanak highlighted that the resistance has reached a new stage: “Until we secure all our rights, the youth, women, and the people will continue along this path. Mr. Öcalan made a call to our people as a representative of peace and the address of the solution. This call has opened the doors to a new era based on democratic transformation. We are ready for peace, resolution, and an equal, democratic life. However, this process cannot proceed unilaterally. The government and the state must change as well. Under the trustee regime, conducting a healthy process is impossible. Above all, the will and language of the people must be respected.”
The commission should meet with Öcalan
Kışanak drew attention to the parliamentary commission, and said: “If this commission represents the people, it is responsible for eliminating the conditions that lead to conflict. Our mother tongue must be respected, and laws for democratic transformation must be prepared. The first step in pursuing a policy responsible to the people is to meet with Mr. Öcalan. He is the architect of the democratic solution and of leaving weapons behind. The commission must listen to his proposals and communicate them to society. If the solution passes through Parliament, this step must be taken.”
Women must lead this process
Focusing on the role of women, Kışanak continued: “Our people must stand united, strengthen national unity, and protect their will. We are not passive observers; we are part of the solution. We will protect our identity, language, and unity. As women, we will fulfill our responsibilities. Women, who make up half of the Kurdish population, must be at the forefront of the struggle. Solidarity is the most fundamental principle of a democratic society. As a people fighting for freedom, we must also end violence against women.”
