The hunger strike launched by nine political prisoners in Karaj’s Ghezel Hesar Prison to protest inhumane prison conditions and the mistreatment of two inmates has entered its eighth day. Reports indicate that the health of the prisoners on strike has severely deteriorated.

According to the platform “Voice of Kurdish and Iranian Prisoners,” the hunger strike began in response to the torture and ill-treatment of political prisoners Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hasani.

The following inmates have joined the strike: Lokman Aminpour, Sipehr Imam Jom’eh, Maysam Dehban Zadeh, Hamzeh Sivari, Mostafa Ramazani, Salahaddin Ziyabi, Arsham Rezaei, Ahmad Reza, and Reza Salman Zadeh.

Information coming from the prison reveals that the strikers have been held in solitary confinement for nearly a week and their health is visibly worsening.

On 27 July, under orders from the prison warden, around 100 armed guards and intelligence officers reportedly raided the wards of political prisoners. Many of the inmates were forcibly removed and placed in solitary confinement.

Woman teacher re-arrested in Sanandaj

In Sanandaj (Sine), Eastern Kurdistan (Rojhilat), Suheyla Khalidian, a female teacher who was previously arrested during the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” uprising that began after the killing of Jina Amini in 2022, has been detained once again.

The 58-year-old teacher and civil society activist was taken into custody on 2 August after Iranian security forces raided her home. There is currently no information on where she has been taken.

While the Iranian regime continues its crackdown on women who participated in the protests sparked by Jina Amini’s death, data from the Kurdistan and Iran Human Rights Organization show that within the first 11 months of 2024:

– 120 women activists were detained,

– 232 women were arrested,

– 41 women were executed.
