Turkish police raided the Mesopotamia Language and Culture Research Association (MED-DER), Payîz Pirtûk and Anka Language and Art Education Cooperative and many houses in Amed (Diyarbakır) yesterday on the basis of an investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in 2022. Books, magazines and digital materials were seized during the raids, while a confidentiality order was imposed on the investigation. Lawyers met with their clients after the restriction on accessing legal counsel expired today.
Lawyers meeting with their clients held at Diyarbakır TEM (Anti-Terror) Branch of the police were informed that additional detention orders had been issued. The lawyers emphasised that there had been partial problems regarding access to medication for their clients who were suffering from illnesses, but that these problems were solved after the meetings.
It is reported that Belkıs Süleymanoğlu Bitkin, who was detained in İzmir in the scope of the political genocide operation, was brought to Amed. On the other hand, Şehriban Ayluçtarhan, who was detained in Istanbul, has not been brought to Amed yet.
The names of those detained are as follows: MED-DER co-chairs Mehmet Remzi Azizoğlu and Şükran Yakut, Rıfat Ronî, Ramazan Holat, Dilan Güvenç, Nazan Çelik, Rezan Aktulum, Beritan Gürbet Orak, Berivan Duman, Ayhan Karatekin, Belkisa Süleymanoğlu Bitkin, Cihat Güney, Mehmet Salih Öngün, İlyas Gün, Hebun Yağmur, Mine Karakaş, Ahmet Boltan, Rabia Karayıl, İpek Oyur, Fatma İgin, Mustafa Açmaz, Hasan Gürpınar, Şilan Elmas Kan, Şehriban Ayluçtarhan, Niştiman Gül ve Cihat Çağrıcı, Yaşar Aslan, Jiyan Yağmur, Hasan İkvan.
