The posters by artist Ali Zülfikar hanged on walls in Berlin were found torn and damaged.
Painter Zülfikar created a portrait of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan on a giant tree with the root painting technique in his work titled ‘Cry for Freedom’. The exhibition also includes portraits of environmental activist Greta Thunberg, imprisoned politicians Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş, as well as portraits of Antonio Gramsci, Rosa Luxemburg, Nelson Mandela and Che Guevara.
Zülfikar, in his assessment of the attack on the exhibition posters said: “Our poster does not contain hostility, but the efforts of an artist who wants peace. Our exhibition is an art event. Of course, we do not accept such behavior that contradicts the purpose of the exhibition.
In addition, we will not allow our exhibition to be blocked. My stance on this issue is clear. Other institutions that support our exhibition also agree with me. I am happy to be able to hold our exhibition, and despite all kinds of provocations, this exhibition will come to life.”
The opening of Ali Zülfikar’s exhibition will be held on 10 October 2024 at 19:00 at Torstraße 6,10119 Berlin.
