The Shengal Autonomous Administration released a statement marking the 41st anniversary of the August 15 Offensive, which represents the first bullet fired at the Turkish army by the Kurdish freedom movement in North Kurdistan in 1984.
The Shengal Autonomous Administration congratulated Abdullah Öcalan, the guerrillas of Kurdistan, and the Yazidi community on the “Resurrection Day”, stating the following:
“Today is a day of great significance for the Yazidi community. Today is the day of liberation and resistance for all oppressed peoples. The freedom fighters came to our aid during the genocidal onslaught in this spirit and saved us from genocide. Our community must keep the spirit of Egîd, Mam Zekî Şengalî, and Said Hasan alive, recognize itself, and save itself from genocide.
On the occasion of August 15, we will raise the struggle for freedom and democracy. We will expand our struggle for the construction of a democratic nation based on the unity of the peoples of the region and the ideas of Leader Öcalan. In particular, we will strengthen the alliance of the Yazidi people with the peoples in the region and play a role for a solution in Iraq and the world. This will also be based on the ideas of Leader Öcalan. Long live the August 15 Offensive!”
