Hesen Yehya Al-Atrash and Khalid Jamoul, two prominent figures from Suwayda (Sweida), released a video message addressing the international community about the ongoing attacks and acts of violence targeting Suwaida since 13 July 2025. According to human rights organizations, these attacks have resulted in the deaths of 1,339 people and continue to this day.
In their message, ANHA News Agency reported, the leaders emphasized that tensions in Suwaida remain high, with both villages and towns reduced to ruins, and thousands of displaced families left in desperate conditions. Despite the scale of the crisis, they noted that no international or regional initiative has been launched to support the suffering civilian population.
The message stated, “The ongoing attacks and blockades targeting the city and rural areas of Suwaida have left people without even the most basic humanitarian needs. There is no border crossing through which humanitarian and medical aid can be delivered safely.” The leaders called for the immediate opening of a humanitarian corridor under United Nations supervision at the Suwaida–Jordan border.
The message also included a call to King Abdullah II of Jordan, urging him to approve either the Debin or the Makhariya village border crossing as a designated humanitarian corridor, allowing aid to reach Suwaida under the supervision of international organizations.
The message underlined that the people of Suwaida, in all their diversity, remain united in the face of the attacks. It included a strong call to international institutions, especially the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and the Arab League, to take immediate action to end the systematic violence continuing in southern Syria.
