The death toll from a fire at a shopping mall in the eastern Iraqi city of Kut has risen to 61, according to reports.

Dozens have been killed by a fire at the Hyper Mall shopping center in the eastern Iraqi city of Kut on Wednesday.
The Iraqi Interior Ministry said in a written statement, “The tragic fire claimed the lives of 61 innocent citizens, most of whom died in the bathroom (from smoke inhalation). Among the victims are 14 burned bodies whose identities have not yet been determined.”
An official from the health department in Wasit province, where Kut is located, said that 55 people had died and that rescue teams were continuing to search for missing persons.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. Three days of mourning have been declared in the province.
