The Izmir office of Evrensel newspaper was attacked with firearms at around 1:30 a.m. No one was injured in the attack, which left seven bullet holes in the signboard.
According to reports, the attack was carried out by a person named Isa Can, while Ibrahim Halil Bilal, who brought him to the office, was taken into custody.
In a statement, the newspaper emphasized that the attack was not only directed at Evrensel, but also at the public’s right to information and freedom of the press.
“No threats or pressure will silence us,” Evrensel underlined.
A press conference will be held today at 7 p.m. in front of the Alsancak Türkan Saylan Cultural Center in response to the attack.
