The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Press Center issued a statement about the ISIS assault on Deir ez-Zor. The statement said: “The ISIS terrorist organization is attempting to re-emerge by launching cowardly and treacherous attacks on our forces. On Tuesday, in this context, a cell affiliated with the organization targeted one of our military vehicles in the village of Riz, located in the town of Besira in eastern Deir ez-Zor. In the attack, one of our fighters was martyred and another was wounded.”
The statement added: “Our forces immediately responded to the attack and launched an operation targeting the area where the assailants were hiding. Following the clash, the terrorist elements fled the area, and our forces carried out a comprehensive operation to clear the region and conduct necessary investigations.”
The SDF said that “in another incident, an ISIS cell targeted one of our military posts in the town of Ziban, also in eastern Deir ez-Zor. Our forces responded decisively to the attack. Although some of the assailants were wounded, the exact number remains unknown. Upon facing retaliation, the terrorists were forced to flee the area. Our forces suffered no losses in this incident.”
The statement continued: “Meanwhile, another attack was carried out against an Internal Security Forces checkpoint located between the towns of Shiheil and Biseira. However, no detailed information has yet been obtained regarding this incident.
ISIS is attempting to exploit the chaos in Syria by targeting our security forces, civilians, and infrastructure in a bid to reorganize itself. However, our forces will never allow these dark and destructive plans to be realized through the ongoing security and military operations.”
