The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria has issued a statement regarding ongoing talks with the Syrian transitional government, affirming their commitment to the goals of the March 15 and July 19 revolutions and expressing readiness to help draft a new Syrian constitution on that basis.

In the statement, the Autonomous Administration confirmed that representatives from the U.S. and French governments also attended the meetings, which they described as an important step toward launching a serious intra-Syrian dialogue.

“Not a matter of bargaining”

The Administration thanked the U.S. and France for their efforts to promote stability, peace, and democracy in Syria, calling the opportunity to discuss fundamental national issues openly and seriously “a historic political achievement.”

Rebuilding trust among Syria’s key actors, they added, is essential for initiating dialogue. “The time has come to overcome divisive rhetoric that contradicts Syria’s structure and deepens political and societal fragmentation,” the statement read. “Diversity in Syria is not a threat to unity but a strength we must preserve. Cooperation and partnership are the foundation of state-building.”

The Administration emphasized that Syria’s unity is non-negotiable and that all political forces involved in the democratic project uphold this principle. They warned that those treating this issue as a bargaining chip are obstructing a political solution.

The demand for a pluralistic democratic system, social justice, gender equality, and a constitution that guarantees the rights of all groups is not new, the statement said, rather, these are the very reasons that led to the 2011 Syrian uprising. Rejecting these demands or labeling them as separatism, the Administration argued, distorts the historical truth of Syria’s struggle against oppression.

A Decentralized Syria

The statement continued: “For many years, Syrians have suffered under a centralized system and ongoing conflicts. But we hope to be an active component in building a new, decentralized Syria. We will not abandon the goals of the March 15 and July 19 revolutions. On this basis, we declare our readiness to participate in state institutions and help draft a new Syrian constitution that reflects the aspirations of the Syrian people on democratic foundations.”

The Autonomous Administration also called on all parties to fulfill their national responsibilities, abandon hate and violence-driven rhetoric, and be vigilant against efforts to fuel internal conflict.

Finally, the statement urged all national political forces to unite in this sensitive period, protect the Syrian dialogue from sabotage, and realize the hopes of the Syrian people for a civil, democratic, and just state.
