The art that emerged in the mountains of Kurdistan has carried deep meaning and importance in the hearts of peoples, especially the Kurdish people, for decades. The music created by the freedom guerrillas touches people’s lives and remains on their tongues for years.

One of the groups that has gained a place in people’s hearts through its art is Awazê Çiya. As they prepare to release their new album, members of Awazê Çiya spoke to ANF.

Tekoşîn Cûdî, one of the group members, gave details about the new album and said: “After our project, titled ‘Destana PKK,’ we are preparing an album that we want to dedicate to our people and to everyone who is part of the freedom struggle and who works to grow this great and comprehensive resistance.

We work with great hope, will, and belief in our free mountain areas under all circumstances. By participating in this effort, we also join the resistance, we strengthen it, and within this rich ocean, we create the melody of a new life. We want to be the voice, the color, and the art of our people.”

The artist added: “We want to be comrades of socialist, democratic, and especially in this era, those who wage the freedom struggle and dedicate themselves to it. That is why we are preparing a new album. The content of our album is based on our values, the martyrs of resistance, the spiritual meaning the martyrs shared with us, and the legacy our comrades left behind. We want to share these values through art and music.

On this basis, we dedicate this album especially to the leader of this era, the pioneer of freedom, the leader of a democratic and free society, and the fighter for socialism, Leader Apo. We hope our album reaches the hearts of its listeners. Of course, there may be criticisms, positive or negative feedback. But art is the language of expression.

Art is amplifying the meaning of history. Its most beautiful aspect is leaving something for humanity. During this period, we also want to make the lived history and spirit permanent in history so that our people, especially our youth, continue their lives in their own language, with their own art and culture. Our album includes Dimilkî, Soranî, and Kurmancî dialects. The works in this album mostly consist of pieces by Awazê Çiya. We released and shared several albums before this one, and this will continue. We will soon share our new album.”

The artist continued: “We want to share the struggle, the resistance, the values, freedom, the new society, the socialist and democratic society with our people through art and production. We must narrate the lived history and the resistance through the language of art, make it a part of history, and build our future upon it. Everyone must take responsibility for this. Because struggle, war, and resistance cannot exist without art. Art is the historical identity.”

A new album to be released

Another member of the Awazê Çiya group, Seyît Riza Sulbus, said the following about the new album: “We have been working on this album for a while. After the ‘Destana PKK’ project, we went through a period where artistic production was very limited. After some preparations, this work began. Our album consists of 10 songs. The album mainly focuses on our martyred comrades. It also expresses the connection between the guerrillas and the people, what is valuable to them, and the feelings and thoughts they carry in their hearts.

The leadership struggle also has a strong place in the songs. In this period, Leader Apo plays a very active role. This is a great honor for us. Therefore, we dedicate our album to Leader Apo, our people, and all our comrades fighting in various areas.”

Sulbus added: “The album was produced at the Martyr Zerdeşt Art Workshop. This workshop has long been an important center for guerrilla art in the mountains. The entire team involved in this work and the members of Awazê Çiya put in intense effort. Our institutions also provided strong support. On behalf of the Music Commune, the Awazê Çiya group, and the Martyr Zerdeşt Art Workshop, we thank all our friends. We hope this album will reach the hearts of our comrades and our people. With great excitement, we will soon release our album and deliver it to our people.”
