Following repeated drone attacks on oil production facilities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), the Iraqi central government has launched an investigation. A high-ranking delegation from Baghdad traveled to Hewlêr (Erbil) over the weekend to inspect the affected sites and gather information on the ground.

According to government sources in Baghdad, the visit is part of a comprehensive investigation, the results of which will be summarized in a report to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani. The report is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the attacks and those potentially responsible.

There have been several drone attacks on oil infrastructure in the region in recent weeks, particularly after the Israeli-Iranian war (also known as the “12-day war”) in June. It is not yet known who is behind the attacks. No groups have claimed responsibility for the attacks.
