Countess Karen Spencer, the estranged wife of Earl Spencer, is preparing for a lively Easter season at her Northamptonshire residence with the addition of new animals to her home.
The Canadian-born social entrepreneur, 53, shared the news on her Instagram, revealing that she recently received six Buff Orpington chicken eggs. Known for their friendly and affectionate nature—often described as the “Labrador Retriever of chickens”—these birds are expected to hatch in 22 days.
“We’re adding to the already slightly over-the-top menagerie this spring with two new additions that I am really excited about,” Countess Spencer wrote. “I just received my six Buff Orpington chicken eggs today. We figured that hatching them ourselves would make them extra tame and cuddly.” She added that the eggs would go into the incubator on April 3, with chicks expected to emerge later in the month.

She described her current efforts to understand the house’s design: “I’ll be adding a few things and making some changes, but before I do, I am making an effort to educate myself on Lutyens’ work and the original design of this house. I’m fortunate to have access to all the original correspondence and designs from the previous owners.”
