The DEM Party Women’s Assembly issued a statement condemning the decision by Iran’s Supreme Court to uphold the death sentence of activist Sharifeh Mohammadi.

The statement said: “We condemn the death sentence given and approved by the fascist Mullah regime in Iran to Sharifeh Mohammadi, defender of women’s and workers’ rights!”

The statement continued: “Wherever in the world it may be, we see every attack against women as directed at our own bodies, and we protest against it. The fascist Mullah regime, which targets women’s lives and resistance, has once again committed a crime against humanity and against women in order to maintain its male-dominated power.

The death sentence given to Sharifeh Mohammadi is not the product of a rights-based legal order but of a system that nourishes male domination and targets women’s right to life. Hundreds of women carrying out the women’s freedom struggle have previously been the target of this misogynistic regime. Against these systems, which, whenever they are cornered, use the judiciary as a stick and grow their masculinity by hiding behind the law, we have not remained silent, and we will not remain silent!”

The statement added that “Sharifeh Mohammadi was sentenced to death on the charge of ‘doing black propaganda on behalf of the state.’ We are her voice, her breath, and her protest! Her trial is a clear indication of how exploitation and violence against women in Iran are legitimized by the hand of ‘law.’”

The statement called on all women to “increase solidarity by saying ‘Jina Mahsa Amini’s hair is our revolt.’ To grow this solidarity means to grow our struggle for equality and freedom against the male-dominated system in every geography we are in. By defending our lives and our labor against violence and exploitation, we will build a free and equal life. With our faith, with our determination, and with our motto ‘Jin Jiyan Azadî’ (Woman, Life, Freedom), we will be the voice and breath of Sharifeh Mohammadi!”
