Dennis Quaid has filed legal documents requesting the termination of child support payments for his twins, Thomas and Zoe, following their graduation from high school. The actor shares the 18-year-olds with former wife Kimberly Buffington.
Quaid and Buffington were married in 2004 and welcomed the twins in 2007. After a temporary separation in 2012 and a reconciliation shortly afterward, the couple finalized their divorce in 2018 following a filing made two years earlier.

Under the terms of their divorce agreement, Quaid had been paying $13,750 per month in child support. The arrangement specified that payments would continue until each child completed 12th grade, provided the child remained under 19 years old and enrolled as a full-time high school student.
Zoe completed high school on May 23, while Thomas is expected to graduate on June 3. Court filings submitted by Quaid on May 20 request that the support obligations end in line with those graduation dates.

The filing also addresses additional financial provisions tied to the actor’s annual earnings. Under the divorce settlement, Quaid was required to pay supplemental amounts if his yearly income exceeded $1.3 million. The new request asks for any extra payments connected to 2026 earnings to be calculated proportionally based on each child’s graduation date rather than the full calendar year.
At the time of their divorce proceedings, Quaid and Buffington described their separation as amicable and emphasized their shared commitment to co-parenting their children. The former couple agreed to joint physical and legal custody, with Buffington primarily caring for the twins while Quaid balanced parenting responsibilities with his film schedule.

Although Quaid generally keeps his private life out of the spotlight, he spoke publicly last year about concerns for his daughter during severe flooding in Texas. Zoe had been working near Camp Mystic as a camp counselor when heavy floods struck the region in July 2025.
The actor recalled the anxiety he experienced after learning about the flooding late at night and being unable to immediately reach her by phone. He later confirmed that the camp where Zoe was staying was not directly affected.

Quaid has been married four times. His first marriage was to actress P.J. Soles from 1978 to 1983. He later married actress Meg Ryan in 1991, and the pair welcomed son Jack Quaid in 1992 before divorcing in 2001.
Following his marriage to Buffington, Quaid married Laura Savoie in 2020. In recent interviews, the actor has spoken warmly about their relationship, describing their bond as a deeply meaningful partnership.
