Legendary entertainer Dolly Parton made her first major public appearance in several months on Friday as she helped launch the 41st season of Dollywood, offering fans an update on both her health and personal life.
Speaking during the park’s opening-day ceremony, the 80-year-old performer delivered the keynote address and shared lighthearted remarks with the crowd. She was joined on stage by Eugene Naughton, prompting her to jokingly address a wave of rumors circulating online about her relationship status.
Parton quipped that some people may have mistaken Naughton for a supposed “new husband,” referring to an unusual rumor that had spread claiming she had married actor Sylvester Stallone. She quickly dismissed the speculation, telling the audience she is not dating anyone and has no plans to remarry.
The country music icon reflected on the loss of her longtime spouse, Carl Dean, who died on March 3, 2025, at the age of 82. The couple had been married for 58 years. Parton said she believes Dean is waiting for her “on the other side,” adding with humor that he likely would not approve if she showed up accompanied by someone else.
During her remarks, Parton also spoke about the health concerns that led her to step back from several appearances in recent months. She explained that she has not been touring and had experienced a few minor medical issues that required attention, but reassured fans that she is recovering and receiving proper care.
Parton noted that the past year had been emotionally draining following Dean’s passing. Grief, combined with other challenges, left her feeling worn down and in need of time to rebuild her strength. She said the period allowed her to focus on regaining balance spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
Despite the difficulties, Parton emphasized that her determination remains strong and that the setbacks have not slowed her long-term plans.
The singer had previously shared news of Dean’s death in a public message, announcing that he passed away in Nashville and would be laid to rest in a private family ceremony. The statement highlighted the decades they spent together and expressed gratitude for the support and condolences received.
In recent months, Parton had limited her appearances and postponed several commitments. Among the changes were a delay to her planned Las Vegas residency, an absence from the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Hall of Fame ceremony honoring Dollywood in November 2025, and her decision to skip her 80th birthday concert at the Grand Ole Opry in January.
She later explained that a kidney stone had led to complications, including an infection, and required medical procedures. With treatment underway and recovery progressing, Parton appeared energized at the Dollywood event, reassuring supporters that she is moving forward with renewed strength.
