Due to ongoing clashes between local fighters and groups affiliated with the Syrian Transitional Government in the southern Syrian city of Suwayda, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, the spiritual leader of the Druze (Muwahhidun Muslims) community, has issued an urgent appeal.

In his statement, the spiritual leader emphasized that the religious leaders of the Druze community do not accept the entry of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and armed groups affiliated with the Transitional Government into Druze areas.

However, it was noted that these groups have entered the administrative boundaries of Suwayda under the pretext of “protection.”

The statement reported that these forces have targeted civilian areas with artillery fire and carried out military operations supported by heavy weaponry and drones.

Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri described the events as “a direct attack on our people and our land,” holding all parties directly involved or indirectly supporting the attacks accountable.

He specifically stressed that attempts to bring security forces affiliated with the Transitional Government into Suwayda under various pretexts are unacceptable.

In conclusion, the spiritual leader called for immediate international intervention to stop the bloodshed, protect civilians, and end violence against the community.

Sheikh al-Hijri pointed to the global responsibility to ensure the safety of the Druze community during this period of escalating tension in Suwayda.
