The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival brought together some of the biggest names in film, fashion and entertainment on the French Riviera, with Emma Thynn offering a glimpse into the whirlwind of high-profile galas, celebrity encounters and luxury events that defined this year’s celebration.
Arriving in Cannes on the morning of the opening ceremony, Thynn described the atmosphere as energetic and fast-paced as guests from across the entertainment industry descended on the city for nearly two weeks of screenings and parties.

Her first engagement was a luncheon hosted at the historic Carlton Hotel, where guests gathered along the Croisette overlooking the Mediterranean. Wearing a flowing yellow dress, Thynn joined a guest list that included actors Emmett J. Scanlan, Gillian Anderson, Nathan Mitchell, Lucas Bravo and Alex Pettyfer, alongside musician Cal Harris Jr..
The opening night festivities later shifted to the festival’s famous red carpet, where Thynn appeared in a black silk and chiffon gown. Luxury jeweller Chopard president Caroline Scheufele attended the event alongside her cavalier spaniel, Lord Byron, while festival jury member Demi Moore drew attention with one of the evening’s standout appearances.
Among the notable guests spotted during the ceremony were filmmaker Peter Jackson and actress Jane Fonda.
Chopard Dinner and Riviera Celebrations
On the second evening of the festival, Thynn attended a private women’s dinner hosted by Chopard on the terrace of the Hôtel Martinez. The gathering featured former French first lady Carla Bruni, who performed a selection of songs in both French and English, including a rendition of Willie Nelson’s “Crazy.”

Chef Fanny Rey curated a Mediterranean-inspired menu featuring sea bream and green zebra tomatoes paired with French wines.
Festival celebrations later continued in Antibes at a Burberry-hosted event at the Hôtel Belles Rives, a location famously associated with author F. Scott Fitzgerald during the writing of Tender Is the Night. Thynn reunited with Daniel Lee, Burberry’s creative director, and met members of the cast from the upcoming season of the television series The White Lotus, including Australian actor Caleb Jonte Edwards.
Balancing Cannes With Family Life
Despite the packed Cannes schedule, Thynn made time to return briefly to the UK during the festival for family commitments and school runs. Back home at Longleat, she hosted guests including Freddie Windsor and Sophie Winkleman for a relaxed afternoon with family and children.
amfAR Gala Draws Star-Studded Crowd
Thynn later returned to the Riviera for the annual amfAR Gala Cannes, one of the festival’s most anticipated charity events. Wearing a navy gown paired with floral accessories, she arrived alongside Caroline Scheufele and actor William Abadie.

The gala attracted an international guest list including Ed Westwick, actress Amy Jackson and television personality Ayda Field, whose husband, singer Robbie Williams, performed during the evening.
Singer Lizzo energized attendees ahead of dinner with a lively performance celebrating the LGBT community and the charity’s ongoing advocacy work.
As the 2026 Cannes Film Festival drew to a close, Thynn reflected on the experience as a fast-moving and memorable stretch of events that blended film, fashion, music and family life against the backdrop of the French Riviera.
