The Democratic Alevi Federation (FEDA) and the Democratic Alevi Women’s Union (DAKB), issued a statement in response to the PKK’s weapons destruction ceremony held today. They described it as “a turning point where history has changed course and is being rewritten.”
FEDA and DAKB wrote: “As a result of half a century of struggle, with the ceremony organized by the Freedom Guerrillas, the door to peace, democracy, and shared life has been opened. “This ceremony is not just a symbol; this moment is a turning point where history has shifted, and the fate of peoples is being rewritten. The world held its breath; all eyes turned to today. And now we know: the guns are silent, a new beginning has been born.”
The statement added: “This development is not only for the Kurdish people but also a breath, hope, a revival for all oppressed, marginalized, and ignored peoples in this geography. For the Alevis is much more than that. We Alevis are not passive spectators of peace; we are its pathmakers, carriers, and nurturers. Because we are not just witnesses to this process, we are its carriers, victims, subjects, and solvers. Therefore, we will truly walk for peace, take responsibility for it, and continue the struggle.”
Calling for this newly opened door to peace to be fully opened, the Alevi organizations added: “Do not obstruct this social transformation; respect the will of the peoples for peace, because peace is the key to a free life for all of us. If peace is a word, we are ready to turn it into truth.”
