Four people, including a journalist, were detained in house raids carried out by the police in İzmir province.

The Turkish state has launched a new wave of detentions in recent days. While at least 25 people were detained in Amed (Diyarbakır)-centred operations on Tuesday, house raids took place in the western province of İzmir on Wednesday morning.

During the raids, 4 people were taken into custody, including Lütfiye Burcu Kara, a reporter for Mücadele Birliği (Union of Struggle) Newspaper.

The police confiscated digital materials such as computers and telephones, while the detainees were restricted from seeing their lawyers for 24 hours.

The police broke the door of the İzmir Representative Office of the Union of Struggle and conducted a search inside. Books and archives were seized during the search.

It is reported that detentions took place within the scope of an investigatioan initiated based on ‘secret witnes’s statements. The allegations include ‘distributing leaflets, attending commemorations, writing on walls and participating in press statement events’.
