It has been reported that fuel supplies to the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods of Aleppo have come to a complete standstill due to restrictions imposed by the Syrian Transitional Government on the region.
The Municipal Council has restricted the operating hours of generators as a precautionary measure against the fuel crisis.
According to a statement from the council, generators operating on an ampere system will now only be able to operate between 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM, totaling three hours per day.
Fuel is running out
A source from the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighborhood council told ANHA that current fuel stocks are almost completely depleted and only limited amounts of fuel have been set aside for bakeries and hospitals.
Accordingly, the Transitional Government’s continuation of the embargo is severely impacting the daily lives of neighborhood residents.
Kidnapped drivers
According to reports from local legal organizations, security forces affiliated with the Transitional Government and Turkey-backed armed mercenaries kidnapped a number of fuel tanker drivers and their assistants at a checkpoint between Aleppo and Dair Hafir on June 18, 2025. Following this incident, an active blockade was observed to have been imposed on the neighborhoods.
Past embargoes
Sources in the region emphasize that such blockades and embargoes are not new. The 4th Division affiliated with the Baath regime had blocked fuel supplies to Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah until 2018, and many children lost their lives during the fuel crisis that ensued.
