US-led Coalition air defenses intercepted and destroyed eight explosive-laden drones over Erbil on Friday, the Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Group (CT Kurdistan) said.
The interceptions took place between 4:19 and 5:25 a.m., local time, with no casualties reported.
Residents told Shafaq News they heard at least four explosions before dawn and saw white smoke in the sky as air defense systems engaged the drones. Falling debris caused limited property damage.
Earlier this week, the CT Kurdistan said the Coalition forces shot down eight explosive drones over Erbil without causing casualties.
The US Mission in Iraq urged American citizens to remain on high alert following “Iran-enabled drone attacks on Erbil on July 15,” warning that further travel disruptions and airspace closures could occur with little notice.
