The “Conference on the Importance of Kurdish National Unity” organized by the Democratic Unity Initiative in Bazîd, Agirî, continued with a session titled “Developments in the Middle East and the Situation of the Kurds.” The session was moderated by lawyer Kadir Kutevi and featured speakers politician Gültan Kışanak, Hasan Özgüneş, and historian Faik Bulut.
Hasan Özgüneş said that a third world war is taking place in the Middle East. “Whoever dominates the Middle East dominates the world. States and structures that do not serve dominant powers are being dismantled in every sense. The Middle East cannot be liberated by U.S. or Israeli policies. The only salvation for the region lies in Mr. Abdullah Öcalan’s Third Way paradigm. Mr. Öcalan is offering humanity new hope and a new path. For this, Kurds must unite around this paradigm,” he said.
Middle East expert and historian Faik Bulut stated that the world is in great chaos. “Maps are changing, life is changing, and so are the Kurds. The coming period will be difficult, but this pain is the birth pain of a new life. Our path is thorny, rocky, and rough, and we need to understand this reality. We have been demanding our rights for a thousand years. For the first time in a thousand years, such a great opportunity has come into our hands. Global dynamics affect this region by 85 percent. That’s why Devlet Bahçeli didn’t just wake up one morning and say these things. The world and global powers now want the Kurdish issue to be resolved. If Turkey doesn’t resolve it, it will face a major threat. Bahçeli knows very well that the only way to preserve the state is by embracing the Kurds. Turkey has no choice in this process. Öcalan wants to save the Kurds; Bahçeli wants to save the state. Whoever aligns with the Kurds will win. Today is the day for Kurdistan’s unity, and if that is achieved, it will bring great gains. It won’t be easy, but things are improving day by day. Kurdish dreams are becoming reality, and Kurds will certainly be at the table.”
Politician Gültan Kışanak said the following in her speech: “First of all, this people must live with its own history, culture, language, and identity. If we are talking about unity today, it is thanks to the process started by Kurdish People’s Leader Mr. Öcalan. What Mr. Öcalan proposes today is a communal democratic society. He speaks of coming together and uniting. The history of Kurdish heroism and resistance has also been a history of massacres. We must analyze this process well and learn lessons. All past resistances remained fragmented and regional, and the dominant powers opened the door to our defeat. Mr. Öcalan is deeply emotional about this issue. He often refers to Mem û Zîn and Derwêş û Edûlê. These stories always remained incomplete, and Mr. Öcalan says, ‘I am looking for a Kurdish reality to complete these unfinished epics.’ Mr. Öcalan is fighting to complete the unfinished loves in all our hearts. He bases this process on a win-win philosophy, not lose-lose. Kurds are a resisting, heroic people, but they are also a people whose struggle for victory has often remained unfinished.
We no longer want to pay the price, we want to win. We want to win in all four parts of Kurdistan. Mr. Öcalan says, ‘We Kurds will speak not our last word, but our word for the future at the negotiation table.’ If all dominant powers are cooperating with Kurds, then what we must do is strengthen the paradigm leading this process. Our lands have had enough of death. We no longer want to carry coffins and mourn. Our duty is to build the future, to build the future of our children and our youth. We need the power of words and strategic thinking, a democratic nation, and a democratic alliance. We are on the verge of victory, and instead of fragmentation, we must form a principled alliance. We want to build a democratic society, and of course there will be differences. Kurds have historically moved beyond these divisions. Now that we are on the verge of victory, we cannot accept division and acting separately.”
“We women must lead the democratic society and the solution. This is the time to bring forth strategic national wisdom. These lands have seen great empires, and from them remain bitter memories. But Kurds have a word to say. Now is the time to speak. Now is the time to feel the weight of our words,” she concluded.
