Members of the DEM Party Imrali Delegation, Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar, along with Öcalan’s lawyer Faik Özgür Erol, visited the CHP Headquarters and met with CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. Following the meeting, Buldan and Sancar spoke to the press.
Pervin Buldan said they had learned that Özel would continue to provide valuable support to the process, adding, “We discussed in detail the peace process, the stages we have reached since the weapons destruction ceremony, the commission to be established in Parliament, the expectations from this commission, and the need to reach a common understanding to advance the peace process.”
Buldan noted that Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş will meet with the group deputy chairpersons of all parties tomorrow morning.
Pervin Buldan continued: “We discussed in detail the importance of this meeting to be held before the commission. Each party has different proposals and expectations regarding the commission. We evaluated and discussed the commission issue in greater detail because there are different expectations that need to be discussed and resolved in this commission. Mr. Özgür Özel has made important contributions to the peace issue from the very beginning, and we expressed that these contributions are important. We have at least learned that Mr. Özel will continue to support the peace process and will provide valuable support for the work in this regard. We thank Mr. Özel for receiving us. Tomorrow’s commission meeting is an important one. We are all awaiting the outcomes of this meeting. We will see the results.”
Mithat Sancar, on the other hand, said, “We also had the opportunity to discuss all important issues related to the current stage of the process.”
“Of course, it is very important that the Parliament will now be involved in this process,” said Sancar, adding: “Because the Parliament will play a vital role in advancing the peace process and consolidating it towards a solution. We have been saying this from the very beginning. Of course, there are also problems in other areas. It is important for the process to become societal and for peace to spread in a way that encompasses the entire society.
Peace can only be established through socialization. Legal guarantees and democratic mechanisms are therefore crucial. More precisely, peace can only be established through socialization. Legal guarantees and democratic mechanisms are the most important tools for socialization. Of course, there may be differences in the expectations and perspectives of each political party and social actor regarding this process. However, we have a responsibility to make extraordinary efforts to reach a solution to this issue, which has been ongoing for 50 years with accumulated pain. Fulfilling this responsibility is possible through dialogue between all actors and social forces.
We are now entering a phase where this will be felt more intensely in Parliament. Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş has called the group deputy chairpersons to a meeting. This meeting is probably related to the commission and the consensus on the proposals. The commission’s working schedule and conditions will be determined based on the outcome of this meeting. We will continue our efforts to establish peace, justice, and social integration with the utmost dedication. We will succeed together on this path.”
