Four more Kurdish citizens have been detained in Bukan, Kamyaran and Naqadeh in recent days, as part of a continuing wave of detentions targeting the Kurdish people in Iran.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) reported that Ronak Dashti was detained by Ministry of Intelligence agents in Kamyaran, Kurdistan Province, on 16 July, and taken to a detention centre in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province.

Former political prisoner Ebrahim Janeh-Fard was detained on 12 July in Bukan and taken to the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province.

Janeh-Fard was previously detained in 2022 after returning from a short stay in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and was released on bail after several weeks of interrogation.

In May 2023, Branch 110 of the Second Criminal Court in Bukan sentenced him to two years in prison for “acting against national security” through alleged membership of a Kurdish opposition party.

There is currently no information about the whereabouts of Loghman Ahmadpour, who was wounded during the anti-government “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” [Woman, Life, Freedom] uprising, and Sirwan Azizi, both of whom were arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence in recent weeks in Bukan and Naqadeh.

Since the Israeli attack on Iran and the subsequent announcement of a ceasefire, over 322 Kurdish activists and other citizens have been arrested across the provinces of Ilam, West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Tehran and North Khorasan by the Ministry of Intelligence and the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

In addition, dozens of citizens, civil rights activists, former political prisoners, and relatives of activists residing abroad have been summoned to the offices of the Ministry of Intelligence and the IRGC’s Intelligence Organisation and interrogated for several hours.

Although judicial authorities have stated that some detainees have been released on bail, information obtained by the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) indicates that most remain in custody without access to lawyers or family visits in central detention centres run by security agencies in Ilam, Kermanshah, Sanandaj, Orumiyeh, Tehran and Bojnurd.
