As the second anniversary of the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ (Woman, Life, Freedom) uprising in Iran and Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan) approaches, the Iranian regime’s repression and detentions against the people of Rojhilat have increased.
According to the news in the Eastern Kurdistan media, the Iranian forces detained a Kurdish director named Reza Elayî and his aftermath is unknown. Reports say that regime forces raided the house of Reza Elayi on 11 September and detained him without a court order.
It is stated that Reza Elayî has not been heard from since the day he was detained.
Reza Elayî is a Kurdish director and film producer from Bane, Eastern Kurdistan. He has made many short films and feature films. One of these is ‘Zeviyên qirêj’ (Dirty Fields), which has been shown in international festivals.
The spokesperson of the Cinema House in Iran, Resul Sedir Emîl, announced four days ago that after the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ uprising, nearly 300 film directors were prosecuted and their rights to work were cancelled.
