The Internal Security Forces of Northern and Eastern Syria said in a statement that an armed attack was carried out by an ISIS-affiliated cell on a checkpoint in the eastern Deir ez-Zor town of Dirinc.
The statement noted that civilians traveling near the checkpoint were stopped by ISIS militants. Shortly after, the Internal Security Forces responsible for securing the area came under fire. As a result of the gunfire, one civilian in the area was seriously wounded and later lost their lives despite all medical efforts.
The Internal Security Forces added that the attackers fled the area during the exchange of fire. Security measures have been tightened in the area, and a comprehensive investigation into the attack has been launched.
