An operation by the SDF’s Military Operations Units targeted a senior ISIS official responsible for the group’s General Research Division in Syria, who was involved in identifying targets for terrorist attacks.

On August 3, 2025, the Military Operations Units (TOL) of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), supported by the International Coalition, conducted a precise security operation in the city of Heseke.
According to the Media Center of the People’s Defense Units (YPG), the operation targeted a senior ISIS official responsible for the group’s General Research Division in Syria, who was involved in identifying targets for terrorist attacks. The individual was captured as a result of the operation.
“This mission reflects the continued efforts of the Syrian Democratic Forces to pursue ISIS remnants, dismantle their operational structures, and safeguard the region from terrorist threats,” said the YPG statement on Wednesday.
