The Co-Presidency of the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Executive Council released a statement marking the41st anniversary of the historic August 15 offensive.
The KCK statement on Wednesday includes the following:
“The 41st anniversary of the offensive that was launched on August 15, 1984, is approaching. It marks a major turning point in the history of Kurdistan. In this regard, first and foremost, we respectfully honor the heroes of this historic offensive, particularly commander Egîd, and express our great gratitude to them for leading this historic initiative that has brought great value to the Kurdish people and all of humanity. We celebrate the historic offensive of August 15, initiated by Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan in memory of the martyrs and in service not only to the Kurdish people but to all of humanity. We celebrate this occasion with the Kurdistan freedom guerrilla, all comrades, all those resisting in the prisons, generally all patriots, women, youth, the peoples of the Middle East, and all socialist and democratic forces of the world.
As we celebrate this advancing anniversary, we remember with great respect, love, and gratitude our great commanders Nûreddîn Sofî and Koçero Urfa, and also the brave young militant Bahtiyar Gabar, whose martyrdom has recently been announced. They arose from the tradition established by the offensive of August 15. In their memory, we honor all the martyrs who gave their lives for the struggle for democracy and revolution and bow before their precious memories. Sofî, Koçero, and Bahtiyar, as Apoist militants, fought heroically in the tradition of August 15 and wrote history. They should be honored as heroes of the tradition of August 15 by all revolutionaries and patriots.
The August 15 Offensive is a historic development whose results are still being experienced today. It is one of the most decisive turning points in the history of Kurdistan. It is a major development that has influenced and shaped history. The Kurdish people, whose existence was denied and who were intended to be eradicated, gained spirit, consciousness, and will through the August 15 Offensive and reestablished themselves on the basis of freedom. The denialist mentality in Kurdistan has been defeated, the process of annihilation has been halted, and the process of national democratic existence has begun. The people have been recreated from their ashes through the August 15 Offensive. It has proven that a people who were intended to be annihilated can re-emerge with great strength through the philosophy, principles, and values of the August 15 tradition, and that they can contribute great values to humanity. It is historic and has created important values not only for the Kurdish people but for all of humanity. Today, the Kurdish people, led by the free women’s movement, are at the forefront of the struggle for equality, freedom, and democracy for peoples, women, oppressed classes, and humanity, drawing on their democratic, ecological, and freedom-oriented values and the dynamism that stems from these values.
The historic August 15 Offensive is an ongoing process. It continues to create values both for the Kurdish people and for humanity. The great struggle for freedom continues to develop in line with its spirit and principles. The August 15 Offensive was not merely a bullet fired at the genocidal, colonialist, and denialist enemy; it was a bullet fired at the genocidal, colonialist, and denialist enemy in people’s minds. It was as much a mental revolution as it was a military action. Today, the August 15 Offensive continues to develop and create historical results in the ‘Peace and Democratic Society Process,’ undergoing historical transformation.
As it has been so far, from now on, all peoples and international friends, especially our people, should celebrate the historic August 15 Offensive with great importance, morale, excitement, and participation. On this basis, we call on everyone to contribute to the development of the ‘Peace and Democratic Society Process’ and expand the struggle with the spirit of the August 15 Offensive, its deep commitment to freedom, democratic consciousness, and militant style. Based on this, once again we celebrate everyone on the occasion of this year’s anniversary of the Fest of Resurgence of the People.”
