In South Kurdistan, where a government could not be formed since October 2024, KDP and PUK delegations started talks in Pirmam district of Hewlêr (Erbil).

The 6th parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq were held on October 20, 2024. Six months after the elections, a government has yet to be formed.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) have been negotiating a new government for some time.
The two parties reportedly met in Pirmam district of Hewlêr (Erbil) for talks on forming a new government.
Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, Qubad Talabani, said in a recent statement that the talks between the PUK and the KDP were progressing positively and that a common understanding had emerged.
According to Talabani, a final stage has been reached and an agreement is expected shortly.
