The 6th parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq were held on October 20, 2024. Six months after the elections, a government has yet to be formed.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) have been negotiating a new government for some time.

The two parties reportedly met in Pirmam district of Hewlêr (Erbil) for talks on forming a new government.

Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, Qubad Talabani, said in a recent statement that the talks between the PUK and the KDP were progressing positively and that a common understanding had emerged.

According to Talabani, a final stage has been reached and an agreement is expected shortly.
