In the Konak district of İzmir, the Avesta Language and Culture Research Association, which offers Kurdish language courses, was sealed by municipal police.
According to a report by the Welat news agency, the association, which was raided by police two days ago on the grounds of “lack of a license,” was officially sealed today by Konak Municipality teams.
Ramazan Kaygısız, co-chair of the association, said, “At a time when peace is being discussed, our association’s doors have been sealed. In fact, it is the Kurdish language that has been sealed.”
Kaygısız called on all civil society organizations and human rights defenders to stand in solidarity.
The Avesta Association, which has been active since 2018, offered Kurdish language courses twice a week. Not only Kurds, but also many people from Turkish, Arab, Persian, Kyrgyz, and Kazakh communities were interested in the courses.
