The Kurdish Culture Festival is organized every year in Brussels to promote Kurdish culture and art.
The opening of the festival this year took place with a street parade in Kurdish traditional clothing. Accompanied by drums and zurna, women joined in with their frame def. The parade, attended by Kurds in their traditional dress and featuring a large banner of Abdullah Öcalan, lasted about half an hour through the streets of Brussels. The procession attracted great interest from bystanders.
Co-chairs of NAV-BEL delivered speeches, highlighting the importance of promoting Kurdish culture and art and called for strong participation.
Speaking on behalf of the European Kurdish Culture and Arts Institution, Sinan Gever emphasized that cultural and artistic events attract great interest and present an important opportunity for Kurds to reconnect with their authentic culture. Pointing to the threats facing Kurdish culture, Gever said: “By protecting and keeping our culture alive, we can carry forward the process initiated by President Öcalan.”
The festival will continue today and tomorrow with concerts, dance performances, a Kurdish clothing fashion show, and the presentation of traditional Kurdish foods.
Kurdish artist Amele also set up a tent where she displayed traditional Kurdish artifacts.
The festival takes place daily at Place d’Espagne in central Brussels, starting in the afternoon and continuing until 8:00 p.m.
