Kurdish youths in Wales commemorated the anniversary of August 15, 1984, when the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) launched its armed struggle. The event took place on Sunday on Snowdon, the country’s highest mountain.

According to the Kurdish youth movement TCŞ, young people from several British cities took part in a joint hike to the summit, where flags and banners were displayed and traditional dances were performed.

Speakers remembered guerrilla commander Mahsum “Egîd” Korkmaz, who fired the first shot of the PKK, and emphasized the political and symbolic significance of the date for the Kurdish movement. Participants also called for the release of PKK founder Abdullah Öcalan.
