Mark Consuelos’ competitive streak took center stage during a recent episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, after an unexpected question during a game segment left both the studio audience and co-host Kelly Ripa stunned.
The May 20 broadcast featured another round of the show’s recurring game “Stump Mark,” where guests share two personal stories and Consuelos must determine which one is true and which is fabricated. Contestant Lisa Best, who joined the show from Chattanooga, Tennessee, shared one story about taking part in a Dolly Day Festival and another about performing with a clogging team at the Grand Ole Opry while in seventh grade.
An audience poll posted on the show’s social media account showed most viewers believed the festival story was genuine, while a smaller percentage thought the Grand Ole Opry performance was real.
As Consuelos weighed the options, he admitted the choice was difficult before warning that his next move might “ruffle some feathers.” He then asked Lisa whether she had children and followed up by asking if she would swear on them that she had attended the Dolly Day Festival.
The question immediately drew a strong reaction from both the contestant and Kelly Ripa. Ripa quickly objected, telling Lisa she did not need to answer and jokingly scolding her husband for taking the game too seriously.
The moment escalated as the audience reacted audibly, prompting Ripa to point out the crowd’s visible shock. She remarked that audience members appeared “outraged” and “horrified” by the line of questioning, while Consuelos defended himself by insisting he simply wanted to win the game.
Despite his confidence, Consuelos guessed incorrectly. Lisa revealed that the Grand Ole Opry story was actually true, prompting Ripa to tease her husband over the failed strategy.
The lighthearted exchange quickly became one of the standout moments of the episode, highlighting the playful on-air dynamic between the married co-hosts.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have co-hosted the daytime program together since 2023, following the departure of Ryan Seacrest. Seacrest stepped away from the show to focus on other professional commitments and reduce cross-country travel between New York and Los Angeles.
Ripa has previously shared that the transition to working together full-time was not an immediate decision for the couple. During a past podcast appearance, she revealed that Consuelos was initially reluctant to accept the permanent co-host position before eventually agreeing to join the program.
