The International Solidarity Coordination has been holding a protest encampment in Chiapas, Mexico, for 53 days, demanding the release of political prisoner Juan Díaz Montejo.

Since 18 December 2024, the protest in front of the government building in Tuxtla Gutiérrez has evolved into a response to the increasing militarization and paramilitary violence in Chiapas.

Demonstrators emphasize that U.S.-backed capitalist projects are displacing indigenous communities in the region, while government-imposed security measures are further exacerbating the crisis.

Criticizing newly elected Chiapas Governor Eduardo Ramírez for enforcing harsh security policies with U.S.-trained military personnel, protesters raised their voices in support of Abdullah Öcalan’s freedom on the 53rd day of their vigil.
