Parliament Speaker Kurtulmuş, who is in Geneva, Switzerland to attend the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, spoke to journalists about the commission to be established in Parliament on the resolution of the Kurdish question.

“From the outset, I have been trying to conduct the process by speaking as little as possible. It is a sensitive issue. It was shackled to Turkey’s feet, and now it has emerged as a historic opportunity. With the laying down of arms, responsibility for this issue lies with the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The process is continuing as planned, as does disarmament. The commission will make legal arrangements regarding the organization’s process of disarmament. It must be conducted transparently, taking into account the sensitivity of public opinion. The golden ratio is the honor of the Kurds and the pride of the Turks. This is not a platform for political debate. It is a process in which all 86 million people of our nation will work selflessly to eliminate this problem. I have listened to the views of all parties. The commission will focus on how to resolve the process. We will include it in our schedule for the first week when Parliament opens. We will seek a qualified majority. This should proceed as a decision taken by all parties. I sincerely congratulate the parties supporting the process.”

Kurtulmuş added that the commission would begin its work in the first week of August.

Within the framework of the Peace and Democratic Society Process, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş last week sent a letter to political party groups regarding the content of the parliamentary commission to be established. According to the letter, the 51-member commission to be established in Parliament will include 21 members from the AKP, 10 from the CHP, 4 from the DEM Party, 4 from the MHP, 3 from the İYİ Party, and 3 from the Yeni Yol Party.

HÜDA PAR, New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah), Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP), Labor Party (EMEP), Democratic Left Party (DSP), and Democratic Party (DP), which do not have a group in the Parliament, will also participate in the commission with one deputy each.

The parties will submit the names of their members for the commission to the Speaker of Parliament by July 31 at the latest.

Meanwhile, the İYİ Party had previously announced that it would not appoint any members to the commission, which is therefore expected to consist of 48 members.

Earlier today, the CHP (Republican People’s Party) leader Özgür Özel said: “A qualified majority will be secured in the commission. We will also appoint 10 colleagues to the commission tomorrow.”
