The National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission is holding its fifth meeting. Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş said that the first session of today’s meeting will be devoted to listening to the Saturday Mothers and Peace Mothers.
Kurtulmuş said, “The suffering experienced by Turkey during this process, which has been going on for more than 40 years, is actually the shared pain of all of us. I believe that we should not engage in any behavior that seeks to pit these sufferings against each other or to place one above the other.”
Drawing attention to the allegations made by Yüksel Arslan, Ankara Deputy of the İYİ Party, on social media, Kurtulmuş stated that there are groups seeking to poison the process.
The Speaker of Parliament further stated the following: “The fact that certain issues, which were never discussed in this commission, were not even brought up prior to the commission’s establishment, and were never shared by the commission members at any point, are being presented as if they were discussed in closed sessions is, to put it mildly, blatant provocation. We must be cautious of those who engage in such provocations. All 51 members of the commission are united in their resolve.”
The point is that this nation should never again experience the suffering it has endured, and that it should move forward toward a future of peace, tranquility, and high standards of democracy and justice. To this end, the commission is fulfilling all of its responsibilities. This commission, consisting of 51 individuals representing 11 political parties in Turkey, has served with great maturity throughout the process thus far. In other words, we have brought the commission’s work to this point by serving peace, well-being, and tranquility. We hope and wish to complete our work as soon as possible and successfully fulfill our duties to the nation.”
