Speaking at a press conference at the Human Rights Association (İHD) Amed (Diyarbakır) Branch, Peace Mother Havva Kıran emphasized the importance of direct talks with Abdullah Öcalan for the success of the process that began following his February 27 Call for Peace and Democratic Society.
“A peace process has been underway for six months, and we, as Peace Mothers, want to meet with Mr. Öcalan. Over the past 25 years, we have left no stone unturned in our efforts to meet with him and achieve peace.”
Expressing her gratitude to everyone who has taken responsibility for the new process, Havva Kıran pointed out that mothers paid the heaviest price in the war, saying, “This is the right of mothers above all, because our children fought for this cause.”
Addressing the state, Havva Kıran emphasized that the process must be taken seriously and called for an end to military activity if the process has indeed begun.
The Peace Mothers called on all segments of society and political circles to take responsibility for building lasting peace, emphasizing that direct contact with Öcalan would play a key role in achieving peace.
The statement said that the Peace Mothers would submit an official request to the Ministry of Justice in the coming days to meet with Abdullah Öcalan, who is held in İmralı Island Prison.
