The Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) issued a statement marking the 14th anniversary of the resistance against Iranian attacks on Qandil on July 16, 2011.

PJAK commemorated the martyrs who lost their lives during the resistance, saying, “Our martyrs illuminate our path. The Qandil Epic, which achieved significant progress in legitimate self-defense and civilian organization, has achieved great successes. As a result of this resistance, the ‘Jin Jiyan Azadî’ [Woman, Life, Freedom] revolution has emerged.”

The statement continued: “On July 16, 2011, the Iranian regime launched a comprehensive attack on the Qandil Mountains with the aim of achieving a major victory against the Kurdish people. Thanks to the defense of the resistance forces and the self-sacrifice of the guerrillas, the attack was repelled. On the 14th anniversary of this great epic, we commemorate all our martyrs. The Qandil Epic has brought about great gains. Today, thanks to this epic, steps are being taken toward a democratic solution to the Kurdish question.

In the Qandil Epic, Commander Simko Serhildan, Egîd Sine, Sarya, Zerdeşt Berfrîn, and many other comrades were martyred in defense of the Kurdish people.

The Qandil Epic has proven that military action is not an appropriate or effective option against the Kurdish question, which is a political issue and must be resolved through democratic means. As PJAK, we commemorate all freedom martyrs, including Simko Serhildan, Egîd Sine, Sarya, Zerdeşt, and Berfîn, who fell in the Qandil Epic.”
