The Iranian Human Rights Organization has published a new report on serious human rights violations against female political prisoners held in Qarchak Prison in Tehran. Accordingly, the prison has become a center of systematic violence and torture.
The organization stated that female political prisoners are regularly tortured in Qarchak Prison and the prison has become a “symbol of silent torture.” According to the report, there are frequent and prolonged power cuts in the prison, health services are not provided, and access to clean water is blocked. The conditions directly threaten the lives of female prisoners.
The Iranian Human Rights Organization reported that some female political prisoners have been suffering from serious health problems for a long time, but necessary medical interventions have not been provided. Human rights defenders, independent lawyers, and international organizations have repeatedly made statements denouncing the violations in the prison and warning the authorities.
Located south of Tehran, Qarchak is one of Iran’s largest prisons for women. According to reports by human rights organizations, ill-treatment and violations against prisoners are getting worse every day. The organization emphasized the need for urgent international intervention and monitoring mechanisms in Qarchak.
