Masses participated in the celebrations held in Qamishlo to mark the 13th anniversary of the July 19 Revolution in Rojava and North-East Syria. According to the people, the revolution was a historic turning point not only for Rojava but for all the peoples of the Middle East.
Xerma Elî of the Association of Martyrs’ Families in Tirbespiyê, stated in an interview with ANF that the July 19 Revolution is dedicated to Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, the martyrs of the revolution, and the people, saying: “Today is a very special and meaningful day for us. Our greatest hope is for the liberation of the four parts of Kurdistan and for our people to live every day in a festive spirit.”
Hesen Şero, Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Cizîr Canton, stated that the July 19 Revolution was the result of great resistance put up by the people at a heavy cost. He said: “This revolution has been a fundamental step toward building a democratic Syria. July 19 is not only a turning point for the people of Rojava but for all peoples in North and East Syria. Today, it has become the most important example of the democratic nation model in the Middle East.”
Hesen Şero drew attention to recent developments, particularly in Suweida, and emphasized that the solution lies in brotherhood and coexistence among peoples. He stated, “The Syrian people must build their own system together and live with their identity, faith, and voics. The system built in North and East Syria today is an example of this shared life. All peoples are celebrating this day with joy.”
Cewher Osman, a member of the Women’s Assembly of the Association of Martyrs’ Families, stated that the revolution was led by women and young people, saying, “The July 19 Revolution began under the leadership of the Kurdish people, but it quickly turned into a common revolution of all the peoples of the region. Women took the lead in this revolution, and young people joined the ranks of the struggle without hesitation and took their place.”
Cewher Osman stated that the Rojava Revolution had great repercussions amid the crisis in the Middle East, noting that the resistance in southern Syria and Suweida today continues in the same spirit. Osman added, “What is happening today is a continuation of the great sacrifices our children have made in the struggle against dark forces. For this reason, we view the July 19 Revolution as a historic project and we continue our struggle in this spirit.”
