SDF: We exercised our right to legitimate self-defense

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that they exercised their legitimate right to self-defense in response to attacks on frontlines in the Deir Hafir region by “undisciplined groups” affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government.

The SDF Press Center, in a statement, “categorically rejects the allegations made by the Media and Communications Department of the Syrian Ministry of Defense” concerning an alleged attack by our forces on Syrian government positions.

Contrary to these claims, it is undisciplined factions operating within the ranks of the Syrian government forces that continue to provoke and launch repeated attacks on contact lines in the Deir Hafer area. Most recently, on the evening of Saturday, these factions indiscriminately shelled populated areas with more than ten artillery rounds, without justification. Our forces exercised their full right to self-defense and respond to the sources of fire.”

The SDF continued: “The Ministry of Defense’s attempts to distort facts and mislead public opinion do not contribute to security or stability. Meanwhile, our forces have demonstrated the utmost restraint despite ongoing provocations  of these factions, who have continued to dig trenches and transfer militants over the past period, confirming their intentions for escalation.

While we emphasize the need to respect the ceasefire, we urge the relevant authorities within the Syrian government to fulfill their responsibilities and rein in the unruly elements operating under their command.”
